Benjamin Cohen (1726-1800), financier. He conducted extensive financial operations first in Amersfoort, then Amsterdam, Netherlands. He exported from his Dutch tobacco plantations to the Baltic areas and imported large quantities of diamonds from Brazil. At the time his was the only Jewish firm in Amsterdam to issue loans and he made two large loans to the Prussian government. Cohen was financial adviser to William V of Orange who stayed at his home in Amersfoort. He was also a patron of Jewish letters.
