Gideon Hausner

Gideon Hausner (1915-1990), jurist, born in Lvov (Lviv), Ukraine (then in Galicia, part of Austria-Hungary). He was taken to the Land of Israel at age 12. He studied law at the Hebrew University. During the Israel War of Independence he was president of the Jerusalem military court. After the war, he was in private law practice. In 1960 he was appointed attorney general and in that capacity he led the prosecution in the trial of Adolf Eichmann. He wrote the story of the Eichmann trial in Justice in Jerusalem. From 1965 to 1977 Hausner was a Knesset member for the Independent Liberal party and served as minister without portfolio, 1974-77. He was chairman of the council of Yad Vashem.
