Haim Shaul Abud

Haim Shaul Abud (1890-1977), poet, born in Aleppo, Syria (then part of the Ottoman Empire). Abud studied with Raphael Antebi. In his youth he emigrated to Argentina, where he served as cantor of the Jewish community of immigrants from Aleppo and strived to disseminate he piyyutim of Aleppo. In the early 1930s he immigrated to the Land of Israel and became one of the most prominent poets and teachers in Jerusalem, where he edited "Sefer Shirey Zimra Ha-Shalem im Sefer Ha-Bakkashot Le-Shabat" ("The Complete Book of Songs with the Book of Bakkashot for the Sabbath") (Jerusalem, 1936).
