Mihaly (Miska) Hauser
Mihaly (Miska) Hauser (1822-1887), violinist and composer, born in Pozsony, Hungary (Pressburg, then part of the Austrian Empire, now Bratislava, Slovakia).
He studied the violin under Joseph Boehm, Konradin Kreutzer, Joseph Mayseder and Simon Schechter in Vienna, Austria. In 1840 he went on a world wide performing tour, covering Germany (1940), then Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Russia (1842), England (1851) North and South America, Australia, Pacific islands, then (1858) India, Egypt, Malta, Turkey and the Balkans. He was the first European artist to appear in the Hawaiian Islands. He toured Italy (1864) and then performed in Paris, Berlin, and Koln. He enjoyed a great success wherever he played his violin. His best known compositions are Rhapsodie Hongroise and Der Blinde Leiermann.
Hauser is also remembered for his Wanderbuch eines Oesterreichischen Virtuosen: Briefe aus Californien, Südamerika und Australien "(Wanderings of an Austrian Virtuoso: Letters from California, South-America and Australia", 2 vols., Leipzig, 1858-1859) - a reprint of his letters to the Ostdeutsche Post, Vienna, on his American and Australian tour.
Hauser died in Vienna.
