אליעזר אלשייך
Eliezer Nisim Alsheh (1908-1983), painter, particularly of landscapes in an expressionist style, born in Vidin, Bulgaria. He graduated from the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (The Academy of Fine Arts) in Munich, Germany, in 1933. He then lived in various European countries, including Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal, and Spain. In 1934, he returned to Bulgaria and held his first solo exhibition. Over the course of 1935-1936, he traveled through several countries, including Turkey, Greece, Italy, Algeria, Tunisia, and the Land of Israel. In 1937, he displayed his artwork from his trip to the Land of Israel in a solo exhibition in Belgrade, then went to Venice and Paris, where he exhibited at the Autumn Salon, before returning to Bulgaria in 1938. After the outbreak of WW II, he was sent to a forced labor camp from 1941 until 1943. After his release, he held his second solo exhibition in Bulgaria in 1946, then traveled to Milan and Venice. In 1951, along with his wife he immigrated to Argentina settling in Buenos Aires. In Argentina he was a teacher at the State School of Fine Arts Manuel Belgrano from 1958 onward. In 1975, Alsheh held a solo exhibition of his artwork painted in Argentina upon invitation from the Union of Bulgarian Artists. He died in Buenos Aires. Several of his works are part of the collection of the National Gallery in Sofia.
