Samson Isaac Solomon Mehedeker

Samson was born on 29th of March 1895 in Karachi, Pakistan (at that time part of India). Son of Isaac & Miriam, they had few boys and girls and Samson was born before the last girl.

He studied in Saint Patrick's that was a Christian school in which they learnt in English. When he grow up he studied accounting and started working in a British bank called "National bank of India" that became later on "National and Grindlay's bank".

In 1915 he married his first wife Rebecca (Rivkaha) and together they had 5 children, Ruth (dolly bhai), Abigail, Ester, Isaac and Miriam (merry). Rebecca died giving birth to their sixth child at 14th October 1928 in Karachi.

In 1930 he married his second wife Bat Sheva which died giving birth to their first child at 29th November 1930.

On 23rd march 1931 he married his third wife Abigail, but since he had a daughter with the same name the bride's name was changed to Elizabeth (known to us as mama). Samson and Elizabeth had 9 children: David, Abraham, Pinchas who died at the age of two (10.4.1934 – 11.1.1936), Rivka (ruby), Elisheva (rosy), Erusha, Ezra (eddy),a daughter that died at birth and Mayer.

In the year 1939 he had to leave his job at the bank since he was sighing guaranty to many bank loners which did not stand to their commitments. They say that he was a good and innocent man, warm, kind and loving. His favorite food was "Samosa" from which he got the nick name Samosa. 

After his retirement he started working in a pharmacy until 1947 when the riots on Pakistan's independence began. The family with most of the community members left to Mumbai.

In Mumbai they lived a year at Samson's sister, Samson worked as a Clark in an import export company called " D.ABRAHAM&SON'S" after a year they found a flat at the Mahim quarter and got a job in "Gabriel metal factory"

In 1963 he came to Israel and settled in the city of Lod, they lived from the allowance he got from the bank in India.

Along the years he had 53 grandchildren and an unknown number of great grandchildren.

Samson died at the age of 90 on 21st January 1985, and is buried in the new cemetery in Lod where he lived since he came to Israel. 

 

May he rest in peace and his memory will be in our hearts forever.
