Esther Shitrit Recounts Her Life in Errachidia, Morocco, 2018

Esther Shitrit was born in the city of Errachidia (Ksar as-Souk), Morocco, in 1936. Esther's father studied medicine by observing Muslim doctors in the various villages. The members of Esther's family lived in close proximity to each other and their lives were shared with each other. Esther's best friends were her cousins. The relations with the Muslims were also good, Esther attended a school where Muslims and Jews studied together. Esther's studies were interrupted prematurely due to her father's decision after he saw that Esther was working at school on Shabbat. At the age of 14, Esther got married. In 1955 Esther and her husband decided to immigrate to Israel, along with their son aged one year and two months. First Esther moved with her family in Casablanca, and then immigrated to Israel.
