Solomon Spear _
Father was Wolf Spear, son of Nathaniel Spear. Merchant in Hessen Cassel, Germany where he lived all his life and died in 1889. Married to Miss Schoenberg of a neighboring province and had six children. Two died in infancy. Nathanieldied age nine years. Betty married Moses Shield in Plymouth. Jacob a merchant in his native town. Sol came to America at age 14. He landed in NY on May 19, 1857 and came to Plymouth May 27, 1857. Later worked for Billstein and Schoenberg in the livestock buiness on his own account. Then bought the Kahn store. Then went into buiness with Moses Shield an dwas a partnership until 1891 when Shield sold to Spear. Did some side business in wool and seed. He was a Democrat. Was on the Plymouth School Board. Twenty seven years on the village council and Board of Public Affairs.
Recollections of Nathaniel Spear Jr: Solomon's parents were Wolf and Yettel Spier. She died in Schrecksbach, Hesse-Nassau on the 28th day of the Hebrew month Tischri 1872.
