Lipschuetz, Eliezer Meir

Religious educator

He was born in Skole and his early career was as a businessman in Lvov. He began to devote himself to study and was particularly attracted to the revival of Hebrew as a spoken language and his child was the first to grow up in Lvov with Hebrew as a mother tongue. From 1910 he taught in Jerusalem, although in 1917 he was expelled by the Turks and spent three years in Berlin before returning to Eretz Israel. He founded the Mizrachi Teachers' Seminary which he headed until his death. Lipschuetz was one of the architects of the Mizrachi school network in Palestine. He was the author of a biography of Rashi, a study on Agnon whose significance he was one of the first to recognize, and other writings.
